After School Art Classes: Mixed Media & Textile
Fig. 1. My students needle felting works from after school program.
These work samples showcase projects created in my Flex-X after-school art classes at Design Tech High School. Through a variety of hands-on activities—including needle-felted sculptures, clay, fabric arts, card making, knitting, crochet, mixed media, watercolor, and pastel painting—students explore different materials, techniques, and creative approaches.
These 45-minute creative sessions provide students with a mindful transition after their academic classes, encouraging them to slow down, observe, and engage with the details around them. By exploring textures, colors, patterns, and forms, students develop stronger observation skills, creative problem-solving abilities, and an expanded creative mindset that supports learning across different subjects.
Flex-X is designed to inspire curiosity, self-expression, and confidence through the process of making.
