Intersessions: 10 DAYS EXPLORING ART & SUSTAINABILITY

I teach my students to create sculptures and upcycle their clothes, to give a second life to these materials, boost their creativity and appreciation for environment and raise awarness about textile waist in the landfield." – Leila Ghasempor

This intensive 10-day class explores fabric sculpture, upcycling, and wearable art, inviting students to transform everyday garments and reclaimed materials into original creative works. Meeting for three hours each day, students build confidence through both hand-sewing and machine-sewing while experimenting with embroidery, weaving, fabric manipulation, and mixed-media textile techniques.

Throughout the course, students will deconstruct garments, combine textures, and incorporate found objects into their designs while learning about contemporary textile artists and sustainable art practices. The class encourages creative problem-solving, experimentation, craftsmanship, and self-expression, helping students see discarded materials as valuable artistic resources.

At the end of the program, students will celebrate their hard work and creativity by presenting their finished projects in a school showcase, sharing their unique wearable artworks with the school community.
